Privacy notice

Last reviewed: 30 October 2026

This notice explains what happens to your information when you use this website: cwmprimaryschool.co.uk. It's written in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because we'd rather you actually read it. This website is designed to collect as little information about you as possible, and this page tells you exactly where the exceptions are.

Who's responsible for your information

Cwm Primary School is the data controller for information collected through this website. The school is maintained by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, which is responsible for education data protection more broadly across the county.

Contact the school: 01495 364825 or cwm.primary@bgcbcschools.wales, Canning Street, Cwm, Ebbw Vale NP23 7RD.

What this website collects, and why

The absence form

When you report an absence, what you type is emailed directly to the school office. It is not stored on this website or in any database. The office's inbox is the only copy, and it's handled from there under the school's own record-keeping procedures. We collect your child's name and class, the date and reason for absence, and your name and phone number, because we need this to fulfil the school's duty to monitor attendance and safeguard pupils.

Photographs and galleries

Photographs of pupils appear on this site only where the school holds the right permissions from a parent or carer. If you'd like a photo of your child removed, contact the office on 01495 364825 and it will be taken down promptly.

Reading and accessibility preferences

If you use the "Aa" menu to change text size, switch to a dyslexia-friendly font, or increase contrast, that choice is saved only in your own browser's local storage. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, and we have no way of seeing it.

Search

The search on this site runs entirely inside your own browser. What you type is never sent to a server.

Everything else

News, the calendar, term dates, dinner menus, newsletters and class pages are content the school has chosen to publish. Reading them doesn't require you to provide any information, and we don't ask you to create an account.

Cookies and similar technology

This site does not use tracking, advertising or analytics cookies. See our cookies page for the full, specific list of what this site stores on your device and why.

Who else sees your information

We use a small number of specialist companies to run this website. They only act on our instructions:

  • Resend delivers the absence-report email from this website to the school office. It is not used for marketing email of any kind.
  • Cloudflare hosts the website itself, along with the database and file storage that hold the content the school publishes (news, calendar, menus, galleries). That content is stored in the EU. Like any web host, Cloudflare briefly processes technical information (such as your IP address) as part of delivering pages securely and reliably.

How long we keep it

Absence reports aren't stored on this website at all (see above). Once your message reaches the school office, the school's own retention schedule applies, the same as for a phone call or a letter.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct information that's wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete information, in some circumstances;
  • object to how we're using your information, in some circumstances; and
  • complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've got it wrong.

To use any of these rights for something submitted through this website, contact the school office using the details above. You can reach the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children's privacy

This is a primary school website, and information submitted through the absence form is provided by a parent or carer on a child's behalf, not by the child. Browsing the website itself, reading news, checking term dates, doesn't collect any personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time, for example if we start using a new service on the website. The date at the top shows when it was last reviewed.
